Statement released by Qom seminary scholar’s community on the condemnation of the insulting Grand Ayatollah Sistani by Saudi newspaper

In the name of Allah the all compassionate the most merciful
Worldly life has been glamorized for the faithless, and they ridicule the faithful
(The Glorious Qur’an, 2:212)
The indecent act of the Saudi newspaper Al-sharq al-Awsat in insulting the high religious authority of the Shi’a in Iraq, Grand Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Sistani, has caused sorrow and irritation.
This despicable insult is in fact an insult to the religion and sanctities of Islam which shows their deviation and anti-religionism.
Having announcing the disgust to this Saudi mercenarys’ insult, the Qom seminary scholar’s community declares: The role of Shi’a religious authorities and Islamic scholars in protecting the religious and national identity of Iraq and also strengthening the unity and political integration of its nation remain a lasting and undeniable role in history.
With years of struggles and fights against British colonialism then imperialism, the Shi’a religious authority has strengthened the foundations of Iraq’s independence and freedom, and has wisely led the Iraqi nation through crises. In the meantime, the fatwa of Grand Ayatollah Sistani, which led to a general and voluntary movement of the people and strengthened the axis of resistance in the fight against ISIS, has also of great importance.
The great Shi’a authority is respected by both people and the holy seminaries throughout the Islamic world, and these irrational act could not extinguish the bright light of this authority. “But Allah will perfect His light though the faithless should be averse”.
Muslims around the world will respond to this offense by following the path of the righteous scholars, and will not fall into the trap of such sedition. However, it is necessary to answer the demands of the Iraqi nation, Islamic scholars and members of the Islamic Ummah, which the insulters need to be prosecuted and be punished.
May God protect and honor the great and honorable existence of this great religious authority for the Iraqi nation and the Shi’as in the world, and may the scholars of Islam and the reformers and awake jurists stand firm in the shadow of the attention of Imam Al-Mahdi. Insha’Allah
